4.3 Command $1A Details Overview
With the IC-R75 and IC-R8500, Icom introduced the cmd $1A for extended memory management, which allows reading/setting of memory names etc. Later, the IC-746, IC-756Pro, IC-910 etc. also used this command, but for more and more different options than just memories.
Before the IC-R8500 and IC-R75 were introduced the Icom command set was quite consistent. I.e. a certain command produced more or less the same results on different rigs, it was just a matter whether this command was supported or not. With the IC-R8500 and IC-R75 the CI-V command set expanded dramatically and many new functions were introduced under command $1A. This led to a situation where similiar commands adress very different functions on different rigs, making the life of a programmer much more difficult. Even more confusing, some commands are replicated, for the same functions you have two different commands on the same rig. But in the end one has to be happy that the wastly improved number of functions is available at all...
