Ambartsumian [Ambarcumjan], Viktor Amazaspovich (1908 - 1996)
Viktor Ambarcumjan was born on the 18. September 1908 in Tiflis.

He was the founder of the Soviet School for Astrophysics, served as the president of the Academy of Sciences of the Armenian SSR and president of the IAU in 1961-1964. Director of the Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory which he founded in 1946.

Ambartsumian worked on the evolution of stars and contributed to the research of radio galaxies. Minor planet (1905) Ambartsumian is named in his honor.
