Alter, Dinsmore (1888 - 1968)
Dinsmore Alter was born on the 28. March 1888 in Colfax, Washington. From 1925 until 1927 he was vice president of the Meteorological Society and from 1950 on president of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific. Alter had a post as associate Professor at the University of Kansas in Lawrence from 1919 until 1935, between 1935 and 1958 he was director of the Griffith Observatory and Planetarium, Los Angeles, and between 1935 and 1942 research associate of the Caltech in Pasadena.

Dinsmore Alter died on the 20. September 1968 in Berkeley, California.
