Abu'l Fida [Abulfeda], Ismail (1273 - 1331)
Ismail Abu'l Fida was born in November 1273 in Damascus (Hegira 672, month Dschemadi 1). He wrote a geographic work with the title: 'The true position of the countries' (Thakwim el-Boldan). In this book he used astronomical determined locations, using the 'Columns of Hercules' as a reference point for the longitude. He died on the 26. October 1331 (Hegira 732, month Moharrem 23) A Moon crater is named to honor him (Abulfeda).
